Hungarian wine has long been associated with the great sweet wines of the Tokaj region, and for good reason: these are among the world's greatest dessert wines. One of the leaders of the region is István Szepsy. A pioneer of dry Tokaji in the early 2000s, Szepsy's low yields and obsessive commitment to quality have also positioned his sweet wines among the region's finest.
The dry Furmint is a must-try for those who love fresh, dry, European whites; this is intense and concentrated. The Szamorodni is sweeter than many wines that use this name and is a sumptuous dessert wine. The only thing better is the 6 Puttonyos sweet wine, for which the best, most shrivelled, concentrated berries are reserved. This is stunning sweet wine.
