Sotheby’s Must-Try Hidden Gems for 2025

François Rousset-Martin: ‘A Bridge from Burgundy to the Jura’

While Jean-François Ganevat and Stephane Tissot introduced many to the wonderful wines of the Jura, the producer that has most captivated our palates over the last few years is François Rousset-Martin. A Burgundy native trained in Dijon, François Rousset-Martin crafts brilliant, nervy whites, alongside silky, lean reds from a mere hectare of two dozen small parcels in Château-Chalon and Côtes du Jura. Producing just 1000 cases a year, Rousset-Martin consistently captures the high-toned and distinctive flavors of the Jura with true Burgundian elegance – a synergy we find simply irresistible and perfect for new discovery in 2025.

Tenuta di Trinoro: ‘A Singular Super Tuscan Sleeper’

Nestled within the tranquil solitude of the Valle de Orcia, Tenuta di Trinoro is a secluded Super Tuscan sleeper – a master of crafting opulent, long-aging red wines from a harmonious blend of Bordeaux varietals with a particular penchant for Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The remarkable wines of the late visionary founder Andrea Franchetti are idiosyncratic in a sense – distinctly different from their French counterparts but much more complex than most Italian Bordeaux blends. Their coiled cores of rich dark fruit and heady, beguiling spice continue to capture the fortunate hearts of those in the know.

Whether it’s one of their single vineyard ‘Campo’ Cabernet Francs, their right bank Merlot ‘Palazzi,’ or their flagship ‘Tenuta di Trinoro Rosso’ – each makes for excellent new companions in 2025 – certainly ideal reds for the winter months ahead!

Domaine Henri Richard: ‘Grand Cru Gevrey Without the Price Tag’

Domaine Henri Richard is not a household name to red Burgundy drinkers in the States, not least due to the very limited supply available. But this Gevrey-Chambertin producer is well worth your attention due to their excellent Grand Cru holdings, lovely winemaking, and stellar value. An early adopter of organic viticulture, the domaine has been certified organic since 2005. These wines show great perfume thanks to their use of whole cluster grapes, along with velvety textures and complex, savory finishes. In other words, if you’ve been holding off on exploring impeccable Grand Cru Gevrey-Chambertin – the opportunity finally awaits in 2025 with Henri Richard!

Walter Scott: 'Great White Wonders from a Break-Out Willamette Duo'

Somehow, the wines of Walter Scott still manage to fly under the radar of many American wine lovers – but surely not for much longer. The husband and wife team of Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon are producing some of the best Pinot Noir and greatest of all American Chardonnays from Willamette Valley and Eola-Amity Hills. The Pinots are particularly fine-boned and aromatic, with silky textures. The Chardonnays combine ample fruit with a tension and minerality unusual to American wines. In chorus with critics and enthusiasts alike, our team considers them some of the most incisive and glorious whites this country has to offer. A must-try New World winemaker for 2025!
