An Impressive Roster
Puligny-Montrachet is deservedly the most expensive source of white Burgundy, so it is reassuring still to be able to find affordable examples which maintain the quality expected of the origin. Such are the wines of François Carillon, who is fortunate to produce a particularly impressive roster of Puligny premiers crus.
The village Puligny-Montrachet (and the under-priced St. Aubin, still the pre-eminent village for good value, classic white Burgundy) are excellent entry level examples. The premiers crus are a great opportunity to study Puligny’s terroirs, from the playful Folatières to the generous Champ Gain, and the linear, intense Combettes and Perrières.
