The First Growths of Bordeaux offer a degree of elegance, complexity, and sheer beauty – beneficiaries of winemakers’ greatest efforts and some of the region’s finest vineyards.
What’s increasingly clear, however, is that the second wines of these noble houses have become stunning in their own right – exemplars of each house’s haute style offered at far more accessible prices.
The production of second wines, which dates back to the 1800s, has evolved over the decades. While they’re typically crafted from younger wines or sites with less ideal exposure, these cuvées have enjoyed huge leaps in quality thanks to soil studies and new vinification techniques.
Sotheby’s Wine is proud to present a curated selection of second wine releases from the five First Growth estates. Second in name only, these are grand achievements authored by Bordeaux’s most esteemed châteaux.
