As we approach the end of the year, it's the moment we all start compiling annual 'best of' lists again. Over at Sotheby's Wine, we have reviewed our best sellers of 2024, all hailing from France. A quick glance at the list means that we can only conclude that our clients have particularly discerning tastes: the selection is glorious.
Two different Krug bottlings headline the champagne selection: the 171st Edition of the Grande Cuvée and the brilliant 2008 vintage. In white Burgundy, Benoît Ente's Puligny Truffière and Coche-Dury's Meursault 2020 look irresistible. Among the reds, it's hard to look beyond DRC and Domaine Leroy from the 1990s, but a special word must go to the de Vogüé Chambolle Premier Cru 2009; an outstanding vintage at the domaine.
Bordeaux offers a treasure trove of riches, including mature gems such as Haut-Brion 1989 and Ducru 1986; superstars just entering their primes now, such as Cheval Blanc 2000 and Lynch Bages 2005; and future legends including Petrus 2018 and Latour and Evangile 2010.
