Dugat-Py: Sumptuous Gevrey-Chambertin

Nick Jackson MW |

Dugat-Py has always been a jewel box estate in Gevrey-Chambertin; a tiny domaine producing rare and sublime wines. In the late '90s and early 2000s, the reputation was one of considerable extraction and oak use, resulting in dense, ageworthy wines. Since 2014, the wines under Loïc Dugat-Py have taken a welcome turn towards elegance, without sacrificing any of the concentration and depth that comes from low yields and particularly old vines.

In a cool vintage like 2021, the most successful Burgundy estates tend to be those which, like Dugat-Py, naturally produce concentrated styles that can transcend the limitations of the vintage. And of course, it helps if you are blessed with a range of Grand Cru sites, as Loïc is. We have in stock no fewer than four of his Grand Cru 2021s.

Expect the Corton-Charlemagne to be full of tension and bristling with energy; the Charmes-Chambertin to have a bit more seriousness and depth than most examples; and the Mazoyères and Mazis (especially) to show all the glories of the Dugat-Py style: shimmering with glossy fruit and quartz-like minerality.
