A Starry Lineup of Drouhin Burgundy

Nick Jackson MW |

Year in, year out, Domaine Joseph Drouhin remains a reference point for drinkers navigating Burgundy. The house style, epitomizing finesse and purity of expression, combined with Drouhin’s impressive holdings up and down the Côte d’Or, ensures these wines are always relevant in any discussion of serious Burgundy.

Among the whites, two of the house flagships are the Clos des Mouches Blanc, a particularly mineral and floral wine that probably takes the title for Beaune’s finest white. The other is from the large Chassagne-Morgeot Premier Cru, where the Marquis de Laguiche holding achieves a depth of flavour allied to a tension that is never less than fully convincing.

In red, I have a soft spot for the Chambolle Premier Cru, a somewhat under-the-radar blend of several vineyards. The Vosne Beaux Monts is another sensational wine, a study in Vosne spice and impact; and the Chambertin Grands Crus, Griotte, and particularly, Clos de Bèze, stand comparison with the finest made.
