Collection: Pichon Comtesse: Spicy Splendor

In the southern sector of the village of Pauillac, three distinguished properties are the principal landowners. By the river, it's Château Latour and its regal, velvety majesty. A little further back are the two Pichons: Pichon Baron, always a muscular, dense wine that needs bottle age. And then there's Pichon Comtesse, which seems to emerge from a completely different universe: sensual, spicy and perfumed. The terroir differences are small; those of taste, vast.

Pichon Comtesse has always been a celebrated property. In its recent history, the most important cleavage is the period before and after Nicolas Glumineau took over as winemaker in 2013. Before that, gorgeous wines like the 2009 and 1998 showcase the traditional, Merlot-heavy house style, with a soft texture and rich fruit.

After that time, the wines depend more on Cabernet Sauvignon, showing greater precision and purity of flavor. Of the vintages we have in stock, the 2014 is already drinking well, while the magnificent 2020 will be an accessible early drinker. And don't sleep on the double magnums and 6-liter imperial of the glorious 2019 vintage.
