Collection: Elvio Cogno’s Remarkable Ravera

Tucked just south of Barolo in the humble village of Novello, the wines of Ravera continue their ascension today as some of Barolo’s most promising offerings. Our latest release features a spotlight on this exciting cru and its premier champion, the late, great Elvio Cogno.

While this Novello native made his start in the vineyards of La Morra in a founding partnership with Marcarini winery, it was his return home in 1991 to establish his own family estate in Ravera where his story truly begins.

Before Cogno, the undervalued Ravera was only known to winemakers in Barolo, often used exclusively to add energy and acidity to blends. However, it wasn’t long before Cogno’s deft touch and fastidious focus in his vineyards revealed the true potential long recognized by the region’s most astute vignerons.

Marked by their great freshness, crystalline fruit, and electric acidity, Cogno’s wines capture the best signatures of Ravera, all the while upholding the beloved traditions and flavors of Piedmont. From the great verve of their calling card Barolo Ravera, to the pungent, peppered cherry of their Pre-Phylloxera Barbera d’Alba, the family’s eleven estate wines offer a window into the Langhe at price points that make these once under-the-radar gems nearly impossible to resist.

Safe in the hands of his daughter Nadia and son-in-law Valter Fissore, Cogno’s essence is alive and well as the family winery continues to make its steady climb. Discover the promise of Ravera for yourself this fall with our latest selection of Elvio Cogno!
