Collection: Château Figeac: Young and Old

Savvy wine thinkers often opine that much interesting wine is made at the edges: of climatic zones, of ripeness, of the very ability to farm that terroir. In the case of Château Figeac, it's geographically at the very edge of both Pomerol and St. Emilion, with all the soil and stylistic contortions that involves. Succulent but strait-laced, rich but fresh, Merlot but...Cabernet. Sauvignon!

Enough. Figeac's singularity is obvious in the glass, and recent developments at the estate have only further emphasised these distinctions. In recent years, Frederic Faye's team has constructed a new winery and used all their various plots to ensure the aromatic, sensual style of the wine remains intact even during the warmest of Bordeaux summers.

We stock, for example, the lovely 2020, so winsome already and yet with thirty years ahead of it; for a preview, try the fabled 1990. From a cooler-style vintage, the 2014 is, along with most from the region, in a delightful stage of early maturity.
