Collection: Bourgogne Blanc & Rouge: Gateway to Greatness

Know your producers and fine wines will follow. There is perhaps no better example of this notion than in Burgundy, where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are often elevated from a humble grape variety to a vehicle for some of the world’s greatest terroirs.

What better way to familiarize yourself with a house style than to begin with a Bourgogne Blanc or Rouge? Our Sotheby’s Wine Gateway selections offer introductions to an array of talented and consistent producers whom we have long admired.

In white, the tense, reductive styles of Jobard or Bachelet-Monnot make for elevated house whites. These are serious producers, and their entry-level wines reflect it. In red, contrast the amazing purity of fruit of Dominique Gruhier with the more hedonistic style of Méo-Camuzet or Cathiard. For a style that leans a little more classical, look to Fourrier or the perfumed heights of Lafarge – each superb regional examples, sparkling with approachable charm.

Begin with a Bourgogne and watch the Villages, Premiers and Grands Crus become all the more enjoyable in context. Both your wallet and your palate will thank you for stocking up this fall!
