Collection: A New Broom at de Vogüé

Comte Georges de Vogüé has long been the largest landowner in arguably Burgundy’s greatest red vineyard, Musigny. But the wines have been frustratingly inconsistent; in warm vintages often wonderful, but in others the quality has not always been at the level necessary. New winemaker Jean Lupatelli’s first vintage was 2021, and the early signs are very promising indeed.

Lupatelli is making the de Vogüé wines with a lighter hand than his predecessor; emphasizing perfume and silky tannins rather than density and power. This approach draws out all Musigny’s irresistible subtleties and glorious texture, as well as ensuring greater drinkability in youth. Currently in stock, we have the Musigny from the cool, chiselled 2021 vintage, as well as the warm, balanced 2022. Also available is the Bonnes Mares 2022, from the other end of the village of Chambolle-Musigny, and offering a darker profile.
