Collection: Volnay: Our Top Picks

Savvy drinkers have long been aware that the sleepy village of Volnay offers some of red Burgundy’s high points: wines of silky textures, floral perfume and dry minerality. And yet, lacking the fame of the Côte de Nuits’ finest villages, Volnay can remain overlooked by the more casual drinker. We have gathered a collection of Volnay’s finest producers whose wines consistently fulfil this village’s great potential.

At the top of the list is Domaine Lafarge, custodians of a traditionalist, ageworthy style, but one that has lightened up in recent years to give delightfully accessible wines that retain their depth. Similarly celebrated in the village is the important domaine of Marquis d’Angerville, whose glorious holdings include some of the village’s finest sites such as Clos des Ducs.

Volnay is also produced by some notable white wine makers from nearby villages, most well-known of which is Domaine Lafon. But beyond Lafon, try Henri Boillot’s reds, or those from Bernard Moreau for pure, red-fruited Volnay of lovely elegance and finesse.
