Collection: Chassagne-Montrachet: Our Current Recommendations

Of all the white Burgundy villages, Chassagne-Montrachet may produce the most consistently satisfying wines. It embodies every facet I want from white Burgundy: generosity of fruit, minerality, concentration and tension. And it is blessed with several excellent Premiers Crus, worked by outstanding producers. The benchmark remains the Ramonet family, now bottling under two labels. Try Noël’s village-level and Premier Cru Ruchottes for a most effective and enjoyable introduction to the style of Chassagne.

Other producers we are enjoying at present include Jean-Noël Gagnard; winemaker Caroline L’Estimé’s Caillerets Premier Cru from 2018 is now in fine form. Among the new wave, try Genot-Boulanger, a relatively new name for American drinkers, and producing beautifully perfumed and expressive wines. Finally, Bachelet-Monnot is the insider’s choice; the brothers’ incisive, tense style is beloved by industry professionals and savvy drinkers. We only have six bottles remaining: don’t hesitate.
