The town of Nuits St. Georges is blessed with two Burgundian virtues: ample Premier Cru vineyards (although no Grands Crus), and an excellent stable of producers working these sites. Gone are the days when Nuits was considered a 'rustic', uncouth wine; instead, expect richness of fruit, a velvety texture and attractive sous bois notes.
We stock a range of the top producers. The two most important in terms of the size of their holdings are Henri Gouges and Robert Chevillon. The latter has long been a benchmark for the village, producing stylish, authentic, terroir-expressive wines. Gouges, meanwhile, has modernised the house style in the last decade or two, and the wines are now among the most perfumed and finessed in the village.
Producers from neighboring villages also produce gorgeous wines from Nuits. Mugnier brings the silkiness of texture that characterises his Chambolle wines to his large monopole, Clos de la Maréchale. Méo-Camuzet's exuberant Vosne style works wonders with their Premiers Crus. And the chiselled style of Cyprien Arlaud ensures detailed, precise expressions of the village. Something for everyone!
