Echezeaux is a large Grand Cru, second only to Clos Vougeot in the Côte de Nuits. At best, the style is richly fruited, with good structure and a high-toned aromatic profile. But as usual in Burgundy, the best producers do a significantly better job than the rest; it's those we are highlighting today.
The largest holding in the vineyard belongs to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti; try their glorious 2015 to see the ethereal heights possible here. At a more affordable price, I love the supple, fragrant wines of Coquard-Loison-Fleurot and Jean-Marc Millot. From the latter, we also have a few bottles of the rare du Dessus bottling (the best part of the vineyard), made from vines planted in 1949.
Henri Boillot may be better known as a white winemaker, but the reds are similarly fine; we have both magnums and bottles from the splendid 2020 vintage. Meo-Camuzet's is always one of the top bottlings, and in 2023, the wine has a particularly giving, accessible charm.
