For many drinkers, Chambolle-Musigny is the most rewarding of all red Burgundy villages. It's a counterintuitive viewpoint given the stariness of so many wines from nearby Vosne-Romanée, but discerning palates adore Chambolle's aromatic beauty and textural finesse. Fortunately, the village is blessed with many wonderful producers.
An easy introduction is provided by the lovely wines of Coquard-Loison-Fleurot; the 2019 village wine is now in a lovely place to drink. Mugnier's silken, weightless style stands in contrast to the sensual pleasures of Meo-Camuzet or the precision and purity of the Felettig wines. Yet all three remain true to the hedonistic spirit of the village.
I need to dedicate a word to the Premier Cru of Joseph Drouhin, in every vintage a gorgeous wine blended from small holdings in a number of different Premier Cru sites. And finally, if you enjoy a little more age on your Burgundy, look to the Ghislaine Barthod wines; we are happy to offer a handful of bottles from 1999-2005.
