Vougeraie: An Impressive Range of Burgundy

Nick Jackson MW |

Domaine de la Vougeraie is a large domaine, with vineyards covering over 40 hectares, including no fewer than six Grands Crus. It is the crown jewel in the Jean-Claude Boisset Burgundy empire, and a source of classic, unforced, well-priced reds and whites. We are pleased to offer a range of wines with some bottle age, from two contrasting vintages: the concentrated, rich 2020, and the fine-boned, fresh 2021.

Among the whites, the Terre de Famille is a good candidate for a reliable Bourgogne Blanc to keep on hand at home. From the domaine’s home base in Vougeot in the Côte de Nuits, the monopole Clos Blanc de Vougeot offers concentrated stone fruit and an attractive nervy tension. In the Côte de Beaune, the Chassagne-Maltroie is a classic of its genre, combining relaxed fruit with a dry heart; and the Bâtard-Montrachet shows great expansiveness and opulence.

In red, explore the lesser-known terroir of Vougeot with the lovely Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, a wine of considerable gamey charm. Finally, the Gevrey Evocelles 2021 is a beautifully aromatic, expressive wine, yielding lots of pleasure already.
