A Go-To Producer
When it comes to Piedmont, one of my go-to producers is Giuseppe Vajra. From the Barolo region, the Vajra family has been working organically for years, and their large estate now makes some of the region's most consistent and well priced wines. The style showcases purity of fruit expression and supple tannins within a classical frame. Neither modernist nor traditional, Vajra pleases all comers.
The Barolo Albe is one of Barolo's best buys for the price; fragrant and elegant. The two crus, Ravera and Viole, are a step up in complexity and ageworthiness. I love the easy drinking Dolcetto and Barbera, both textbook examples of the varieties and oozing pleasure. Finally, don't sleep on the Riesling, a gorgeously fresh, breezy expression.
