The Brilliant Chenin Blancs of Domaine Huet

In Vouvray, where the world’s most prized Chenin Blanc grows on the northern banks of the Loire River, one estate is all but synonymous with the white wine appellation: Domaine Huet.

Founded in 1928 by Victor Huët, the winery is renowned as a supreme stylist of Chenin Blanc, turning out a range of wines from the taut, precise dry sec wines to the succulent and refined dessert Moelleux cuvées. Domaine Huet is “arguably Vouvray’s most famous name,” says Rebecca Gibb MW in Vinous.

Sotheby’s Wine is thrilled to bring you a selection of top Huet demi-sec and Moelleux releases from the radiant 2020 vintage – a warm, short season that made for early picking as well as limited quantities of these coveted cuvées.

After being passed down through family connections for decades, the property was acquired by business magnate Anthony Hwang in 2003. Second-generation siblings Sarah and Hugo Hwang now run Huet. Winemaking is overseen by Benjamin Joliveau, who worked closely with the longtime former manager Jean-Bernard Berthomé.

Certified biodynamic since 1993, Domaine Huet has been a pioneer in organic farming. The three vineyards acquired in the early stages of Huet’s history are teeming with life today, widely regarded as Grand Cru-level parcels on Vouvray’s Première Côte (“first slope.”)

Le Haut-Lieu is the domaine’s original vineyard, whose rich depths of limestone and clay yield generous, weighty wines. The ideally situated Le Mont vineyard is stony and famous for its mineral character. The thin soils of the walled Clos du Bourg furnish powerful, elegant wines like the 2020 Clos de Bourg Moelleux 1er Trie. Lush, focused, and poised, it’s a signature expression from this legendary Vouvray house.
