A Pinnacle of Red Burgundy
Every great Burgundy collection should include bottles from Comtes Georges de Vogüé. The largest owner of arguably Burgundy's greatest red vineyard, Musigny, de Vogüé's wines are among the pinnacles of red Burgundy.
The de Vogüé style is one that combines power with grace and finesse with concentration. The Musigny has a gloriously complex and alluring nose, a rich, velvety texture and an eternal finish. The 2009 was one of the best wines I drank last year; the 2014 is already accessible, while younger vintages will reward keeping for another 7-10 years.
The Bonnes Mares, from the other end of the village of Chambolle-Musigny, is best captured in the words of former winemaker François Millet, 'like walking through a forest', full of ferns, woody and earthy scents. The de Vogüé Bonnes Mares is a wonderfully complete and compelling grand cru.
