The names of Pomerol's great estates roll easily off the tongue: Lafleur, Pétrus, Trotanoy, Vieux Château Certan, and so on. But how many wine lovers would remember to include Eglise-Clinet? It's an estate that remains an insider's choice in spite of the brilliant wines produced, year after year, all at reasonable prices.
The late Denis Durantou was meticulous in both vineyard and cellar; a gifted winemaker, he was always able to coax generous, supple wines even from the meanest vintage conditions. Today, the next generation runs the estate, and the quality persists. The recipe is conventional: mostly Merlot, a touch of Cabernet Franc; the wine style indubitably Pomerol in its velvety richness and layers of plummy fruit, turning truffly with age.
We are pleased to offer a range of vintages with bottle age. The 2013 is fresh and graceful, for enjoying in the short to mid-term. The 2014 shows more body and succulence and offers excellent value, especially in large format. The 2016 comes from a superb vintage of balance and finesse, and will continue improving for the next 10-15 years.
Don’t overlook the other Durantou properties, including Les Cruzelles in Lalande-de-Pomerol and Saintayme in St. Emilion, both offering exceptional value.
