The reputation of Domaine Arlaud has been steadily rising in recent years, as savvy drinkers become aware of how attractive and consistent the wines from this Morey-St.-Denis producer really are. Helmed today by Cyprien Arlaud, Domaine Arlaud produces a lovely range of supple, aromatic, terroir-expressive wines.
Cyprien is well known for his meticulous vineyard work, including biodynamic practices and the use of horses. In winemaking, a small proportion of stems is retained for the Premiers and Grands Crus. The quality is evident from the most humble yet delicious wine, the Bourgogne Roncevie, one of the smartest buys in Burgundy today.
The village Morey-St.-Denis shows an appealing earthiness alongside the brighter red fruits, while the Millandes Premier Cru is a step in concentration and complexity. The family is fortunate to own almost a hectare (two acres) of Charmes-Chambertin, ensuring not just good supply but also attractive pricing. As for the wine: medium-bodied, with layers of fruit, spice and earthiness. Something for everyone!
