The wines of Domaine Emmanuel Rouget are among the most viscerally thrilling in Burgundy. The purity of diction, the explosive aromas, the jewel-like texture: these are little works of art. The Rouget domaine works the vineyards formally belonging to Henri Jayer, Burgundy’s dominant figure of the second half of the last century. A proponent of ripe, clean, de-stemmed fruit, the results for his wines and for those of Rouget are sensational.
While the Cros Parantoux rightly receives top billing, even village wines can be extraordinary from this address: try the Chorey, Nuits-Saint-Georges or Vosne-Romanée to see for yourself. Finally, these wines particularly reward patience; structured and mysterious, their secrets are only fully unveiled after a decade or more in the bottle.
