Kistler Pinot Noir: A Unique Expression

Etienne Guerin |
Few wineries have defined the perception of American Chardonnay as much as Kistler Vineyards. Since 1978, through meticulous work both in the vineyards and the cellar, founder Steve Kistler helped shape the idea of the grape outside of its reference homeland, Burgundy. Site-specific Chardonnay bottlings from the winery have consequently become icons of American viticulture.

However, such a status contributed to gathering the attention away from their red counterparts, namely the wonderful Pinot Noirs that Kistler has historically produced, mostly in the Russian River Valley area. It is probably with that factor in mind that in 2011, Kistler founded a separate winery entirely dedicated to Pinot Noir from Sonoma’s coastal areas – Occidental Wines.

Sotheby’s Wine is happy to offer a selection of Kistler and Occidental Pinot Noirs. Experience the gracious purity of, among others, the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2022 bottling, the concentration of flavors of the Russian River Pinot Noir 2021 or the layered complexity of a mature Occidental single-vineyard cuvée from 2014, at its zenith. They all share their maker’s vision of a septentrional Pinot Noir expression in California.

For good measure, we also included a Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay – bold, bright and balanced.
