Exceptional Roagna: A Celebration of Barbaresco & Barolo

Victor Rabot |
Roagna's history in Barbaresco dates back to the early 20th century when Vincenzo Roagna established the estate. Today, under the stewardship of Luca Roagna, the fifth generation of the family, the estate continues its legacy of producing wines in a deeply traditional and classic style. Throughout the generations, the Roagna family has safeguarded their winemaking philosophy, crafting wines that are profound, complex, and built for aging and rewarding long-term cellaring.

The heart of the estate lies in Barbaresco, where their six-and-a-half hectares of vineyards include prized holdings in the Pajé cru. In 1989, the family fulfilled their long-held aspiration of owning exceptional Barolo vineyards by acquiring the historic Pira parcel in Castiglione Falletto. This site, historically known as La Rocca e La Pira, has become the cornerstone of Roagna's Barolo production.

Our offer includes an array of vintages, from 2006 to 2017, with additional information about each cuvée presented below. Limited quantities are available for purchase.

Pajé (Barbaresco)
Pajé is one of Barbaresco’s historic vineyards, situated at the heart of the region. Roagna's Pajé holdings include:

Barbaresco Pajé: from vines 25–50 years old, producing less than 10,000 bottles annually.

Barbaresco Pajé Vecchie Viti: from vines over 50 years old, limited to a few thousand bottles per vintage.

Barbaresco Crichët Pajé: from the vineyard’s crest, with vines over 60 years old; production rarely exceeds 2,000 bottles annually and requires long aging before release (about 10 years after the harvest). Created from experimentation over many years in order to produce the best of the best from this parcel. One of their most sought-after cuvées.

Montefico Vecchie Viti (Barbaresco)
The Montefico vineyard, acquired by Roagna in 1929, covers just 0.24 hectares and is planted with vines over 50 years old. Production is exceedingly limited, with only about 1,000 bottles made per vintage.

Asili Vecchie Viti (Barbaresco)
Situated in Barbaresco’s southern section. The Roagna parcel, purchased in 1961, spans 0.22 hectares and is planted with vines over 50 years old. Asili Vecchie Viti is one of Roagna’s rarest wines, with production typically around 1,000 bottles per year.

Pira (Barolo)
The Pira vineyard, located in Castiglione Falletto, represents the family’s largest holding spanning 7 hectares of vines. Its southeast-facing slopes are enriched by diverse soils, ranging from limestone marl to blue stone, lending complexity to the wines. Key expressions include:

Barolo Pira: from vines aged 25–50 years, producing up to 15,000 bottles annually.

Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti: crafted from vines dating back to 1937; production is limited to about 2,000 bottles per year.

Barolo Pira Riserva Etichetta Nera
Roagna’s Riserva wines are made exclusively from old vines and released 15-20 years after harvest. These wines embody Roagna’s commitment to excellence, with only a few hundred bottles produced in select vintages.

Rooted in tradition and driven by commitment to quality, Roagna captures the true essence of Barbaresco and Barolo. Each wine is a pure expression of their exceptional vineyards, offering a remarkable journey through the finest terroirs of Piedmont.
