Château Haut-Bailly: A Legacy of Excellence

Wine Team New York |

Château Haut-Bailly stands as one of Bordeaux’s most revered estates, renowned for its timeless elegance and unwavering commitment to quality. Perched on a gentle rise overlooking the picturesque village of Léognan, this historic property has been crafting exceptional wines for centuries. Under the stewardship of the late Robert Wilmers, who acquired the estate in 1998, Château Haut-Bailly reached unprecedented heights, further cementing its reputation among the finest in the region.

In 2020, the estate unveiled a state-of-the-art cellar, designed by architect Daniel Rous, seamlessly blending modern innovation with traditional craftsmanship. Built into the natural slope of the land, the structure enhances energy efficiency while maintaining optimal temperature control. Expansive windows flood the space with natural light and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards. This architectural masterpiece is not only a testament to the château’s forward-thinking vision but also plays a crucial role in elevating the precision and refinement of its wines.

The essence of Château Haut-Bailly lies in its extraordinary terroir. A rare composition of gravel, clay, and limestone imparts remarkable complexity and consistency to the wines, ensuring excellence across vintages. Today, we are pleased to present a selection of outstanding vintages spanning 1985 to 2020, including a highly coveted limited release.

In a celebration of cultural heritage, Château Haut-Bailly has introduced the exclusive Coffret Lanting Set, a tribute to both Chinese and French traditions. This collector’s edition features one bottle each of the 2015 and 2016 vintages, accompanied by an exquisite calligraphy scroll crafted by master artist Shuo Yuan. Nearly seven meters in length, the scroll unfolds the story of Lanting Jixu, a revered 4th-century masterpiece that captures a gathering of friends sharing poetry and wine. This extraordinary set offers collectors and connoisseurs a unique intersection of fine wine and artistic expression.

For a deeper exploration of Château Haut-Bailly’s rich history and exceptional terroir, we recommend Haut-Bailly: An Exceptional Terroir by esteemed wine critic Jane Anson.
