Château Beauséjour: A Crown Jewel of Saint-Émilion

Morgan Risi |

Rooted in the heart of Saint-Émilion, Château Beauséjour (formerly known as Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarosse) has been crafting iconic Bordeaux wines since 1847. This Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate produces wines distinguished by their rich Merlot character and unmistakable minerality.

Since taking the helm in 2021, Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse has brought a fresh perspective to Beauséjour all while honoring its storied legacy. Committed to sustainable farming, she is dedicated to creating iconic wines that deserve to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

Today, Joséphine is quickly establishing herself as one of Bordeaux’s most exciting winemakers. I had the pleasure of tasting the Château’s most recent vintages with Josephine and she brings vibrant passion to the wines that come through in every sip.

We are thrilled to offer a selection of remarkable vintages that showcase the estate’s signature style. The 2012, with its notes of black cherry, savory herbs, and tobacco, delivers a beautifully layered expression of Saint-Émilion. Meanwhile, the 2016 – hailed as “a wine of remarkable purity and energy” by Antonio Galloni from Vinous – earned scores of up to 98 points, a testament to its elegance and aging potential. Robert Parker gives an honorable mention to the 2009 vintage by calling it “the greatest Beauséjour-Duffau since the immortal 1990” and awards it a perfect 100-point score. With 77% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, this vintage captures the limestone terroir with freshness and precision, offering bold notes of blackcurrant, licorice, and graphite.

Château Beauséjour remains one of the crown jewels of Saint-Émilion. Whether enjoyed today or cellared for the future, these wines are a testament to the estate’s enduring excellence.
