Officially, there are no Grand Cru sites in Nuits-Saints-Georges—but many who have tasted the magnificent premier cru wines of Domaine Robert Chevillon would beg to differ.
This hallowed estate is run by two brothers, Denis and Bertrand—fifth-generation growers and winemakers following in the steps of their father Robert, for whom the estate is named. Thanks to their steady leadership, William Kelley, the Burgundy critic for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has called Robert Chevillon “one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy, producing hearty, characterful wines that stand the test of time.”
The domaine produces cuvées from eight outstanding premier cru climats as well as several villages wines culled from excellent sites. Today, Sotheby’s is thrilled to carry a wide selection of Domaine Robert Chevillon wines that are on the wishlist of every Burgundy buyer—releases that set the “yardstick for the appellation,” in the words of Vinous critic Neal Martin.
The three most famed cuvées hail from the premier crus Les Cailles, Les Saint-Georges, and Les Vaucrains. The vines in these parcels can reach up to 100 years of age, making for powerhouse Pinots that walk a tightrope of elegance and precision. A fantastic value, the 2020 Nuits-Saints-Georges Vielles Vignes captures Chevillon’s refined beauty at a price rarely seen for such an elite domaine in the Côte de Nuits.
