Critically-Acclaimed Wines

Wine Team New York |

Before the great wines of the world tantalize your palate, chances are that the discerning critics of the world have assessed them in great detail. With scores and reviews available in abundance to today’s wine lovers, what difficulty could there be in making your choice?

However, even with this helping hand, it can still be daunting to know exactly where to allocate your attention (especially if space is tight in your cellar). We recall the topical musings of our very own Cat Stephani, Sotheby’s Fine Wine Specialist: “Whether you’re convinced a score of any kind remains a blunt instrument, or whether you live by their convenience, blissfully aligned with the common palate of a trusted critic, there is no denying the impact the system has made on the global wine industry over the past forty years.”

With this in mind, Sotheby’s Wine is pleased to extend today an offer of wines that have dazzled the critics and ranked highly in their various estimations. It would be remiss of us to avoid making some call-outs from this already impressive list.

The Krug 2008 and Comtes de Champagne 2012 offer a comparative study of two of the most compelling Champagne vintages in recent memory (the complete, elegant 2008 and the solar, powerful 2012). For those who seek out longevity in their wines, Haut-Bailly 2019 is stand-out example from an age-worthy Bordeaux harvest and both Bonneau’s Réserve des Céléstins 2010 and Nin Ortiz’s Planètes 2020 promise more savory complexities with time. There is also superb value to be had, with the stellar 2005 vintage from Domaine de Chevalier and the South Australian success that is Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon 2019.

We invite you to elevate any upcoming dinner party or celebration with these powerhouse wines. Cheers!
